Carlos Villavicencio  -- Shodan

Sensei for Northwest Budokan
Master Kise’s Pacific Northwest Dojo.

Carlos started martial arts training in his native Mexico at the age of 13.  He studied an Okinawan style of Karate which leaned toward sport and competition.  He attained the rank of 2nd Kyu before moving to the US as he started college.  Carlos spent 11 years living in Chicago, and while in medical school resumed his karate studies, this time under Sensei Michael Donovan (Sandan) in Shorin-Ryu Matsubayashi and attained the rank of 1st Kyu.  Carlos then moved to North Carolina and worked as a pediatrician in the US Navy, placing martial arts training on hiatus.  Once he moved to the Seattle area, however, Carlos resumed Shorin-Ryu training, this time in the OSMKKF and earned the rank of Shodan in February 2007. Carlos is the main Sensei at the Monroe YMCA.

Carlos is a pediatric hospitalist at Providence Everett Medical Center in Everett and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle.  His wife is a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellow at CHRMC.  They have 2 children, Eva and Carlos, who take karate youth classes at Harbour Point Middle School.
